Angelas Aguilar XV's Bash

The artist

When we found out we’d be the DJs for Angela Aguilar, we were absolutely stunned. At just 15 years old, she was already the embodiment of the future of regional Mexican music. Coming from a legendary artistic family that has crossed borders, Angela is undoubtedly one of the most important artists in Mexico and a global ambassador of Mexican culture.

The complexity

The event was incredibly complex in every aspect—production, coordination, and music. Leading the charge was our good friend and wedding planner, Mariana Gurrola, who absolutely nailed the planning to ensure everything turned out amazing.

With the press trying to get in, media interviews, celebrity guests, and a huge crowd, the pressure on vbmusic was intense. Pepe Aguilar, Angela, her siblings, and a group of renowned artists close to the Aguilar family were set to perform at different points throughout the event. On top of that, a New York-based artist was invited to perform live during dinner.

It was a massive challenge, blending live production with DJing for the party. We often work with bands, some very famous and others more local, for weddings and quinceañeras, but this time the bar was set extremely high.

The event was divided into different rooms, each offering a unique experience in lighting, sound, and amenities. The main room featured the dance floor, where Angela requested an array of disco balls that cast thousands of beams of light across the space.

All the party lighting was strategically hung in various spots throughout the venue, complemented by hundreds of wireless floor lights that added color to the different areas.

The music

Angela and her father danced to "Tu sangre en mi cuerpo." We’ve played that song countless times for brides or quinceañeras dancing with their dads, but here, we were playing it for the very artists who created it. It was a surreal experience and a moment we’ll never forget.

Before the party kicked off, the family and several of their artist friends performed a few songs. Of course, managing production for an 18-piece Mariachi band is no small feat. And handing a microphone to Pepe Aguilar is a unique experience in itself.

During the party, the music focused on Angela and her friends, so reggaeton, English pop, and more youthful beats ruled the night.

The learning

At one point in the planning process, Angela shared a private Spotify playlist with us, filled with her favorite tracks. We still follow Angela’s secret playlist and love knowing we have access to the personal music tastes of such a significant artist.

In the end, everything turned out incredible, and after three days of nonstop production to create a magical moment between two such important artists, we walked away with an immense learning experience.

We returned to our warehouse in awe, energized, and still in disbelief over what we had just experienced.
