Exploring Cuatro Ciénegas: A Magical Journey

Last week, we packed up our gear and headed to Cuatro Ciénegas, Coahuila, for an unforgettable project. Known for its rich winemaking traditions and stunning natural surroundings, this unique destination is home to white sand dunes, crystal-clear blue pools, underground rivers, marble walls, and towering mountains. It’s a one-of-a-kind ecosystem filled with endemic species and a sense of untouched beauty that’s hard to describe.

We were invited to shoot a special tourism campaign in partnership with Hotel Marielena, and the highlight of the trip was recording at a place called “Las Playitas.” This virtually untouched location is rarely opened for filming, making it a huge privilege to be there.

The Adventure

Getting to Las Playitas was an adventure in itself. It’s a 30-minute off-road journey through desert terrain, where we came across countless snakes and scorpions along the way. But once we arrived, the effort was more than worth it. The serene beauty of the blue pools surrounded by pristine nature was breathtaking.

During the recordings, we took the opportunity to experiment with new LED installation systems. The natural surroundings provided the perfect canvas to test out creative lighting setups that blended seamlessly with the environment.

A Unique Experience

At vbmusic, we’re used to working with various brands, designing playlists, creating magical productions, and pulling off unimaginable shoots. But the challenge of Cuatro Ciénegas was something different. Standing there in the middle of such a pristine and remote location, surrounded by nature and music, felt surreal. The project pushed us creatively and technically, but it also gave us a deeper appreciation for the incredible places we get to work in.

Our DJ for the day, Dan Delbouis, performed a specially curated set that he designed alongside Mike Alducin. Together, they created a soundscape inspired by the aura and energy of this magical place. The full set will be released in 2025, along with some exciting surprises from the vbmusic DJ pool.

Cuatro Ciénegas left a mark on all of us, and we’re excited to share the final results soon. Stay tuned—we promise it’ll be worth the wait!
